How to convert Word documents to PDF

Prepare a fixed-layout version of a document for sharing.

Before you start

A Word document and a working conversion service.

1. Prepare the source

Save the latest version and review page breaks, headers, footers and tables. Resolve tracked changes intentionally before sharing.

2. Check the processing label

Open Word to PDF. Unlike FOLD’s page tools, this conversion uses a server. Read the notice before choosing a confidential file.

3. Convert and compare

Run the conversion and download the PDF. Compare headings, table widths, fonts and the last page against the source.

Check the result

Pay special attention to substituted fonts, symbols, numbered lists and signatures. Open the PDF on a second device if the recipient will read it on mobile.

What to know

Word-to-PDF conversion uses server processing rather than running entirely on your device. Supply only documents you are authorised to process, wait for the conversion to finish and review the downloaded PDF before sharing it. See the privacy policy for how service processing and retention are handled.
